A historicaly accurate viking sword and shield set.
The shield is made of wooden planks with steel and rim and decorated with two brass birds of prey.

The brass birds are from the shield found at the Sutton Hoo ship burial.

The sword has a wooden hilt, a bright steel blade and a gold and garnet cloisonné pommel.

The cloisonné on the pommel is also from Sutton Hoo.

Viking swords were valuable heirlooms and were passed down from father to son through many generations. It wasn't uncommon at all for a man to carry a sword that had belonged to his great-great grandfather. It's very rare for archaeologists to actually find a Viking Sword because people were almost never buried with their swords, they passed them on to their sons.
Shields, on the other hand, were pretty much disposable. A shield was designed to shatter under a strong blow and a warrior would keep plenty of extra ones around.
