It is actually triggered by the blink action of your avatar.
Some poses will require you to trigger the blink action to smile.
There are extra smiles, the closed lip smiles will only stay until you blink.
The smiles can be removed with the triggers sad, off, or :( , but the base smile will return at the next blink.
