The needlepoint design cloth covering the chairs is typical of the ornamentation from the victorian era. The threads used for the pattern match the decorative brass trim, yet maintain the foral motif so popular in the victorian era. In earlier times it was more common to see long tables used for classrooms than the individual desks we use today.
