Mambrino: A Winner Born in 1768 - Portrait of the famous race horse Mambrino by renowned British artist George Stubbs made for his patron Lord Grosvenor in 1779. The name Mambrino comes from a fictional Moorish king, celebrated in the romances of chivalry. According to legend, Mambrino possessed a helmet of pure gold that rendered its wearer invulnerable.
