In the 1830s, five civilized tribes, the Choctaw, Seminole, Creek, Chickasaw and the Cherokee were forcibly exiled from their homes in the East to Oklahoma in harsh conditions on a trail which was named the Trail of Tears because due to the harsh conditions and sickness, precious lives were lost and my ancestors were not allowed to honor their dead, but were forced to bury their dead in shallow, unmarked graves, a disgrace to native americans. These unmarked graves are found along the trail to this day. By 1837, 46,000 Native Americans had been removed from their homelands.
