When the Seydlitz-Class Battle Cruiser was designed as the successor for the Kalnar-Class, a suitable name could not be found to reflect upon its design philosophy. Like most ships of her type, the Seydlitz was built to be both a heavy screening element and a fast raider, while also able to provide heavy fire support. Drawing on foreign influence, the class was named for a highly regarded and brilliant Prussian Cavalry General who's tactics reflected the ships purpose. Unlike previous Battle Cruisers built by GDI, the Seydlitz introduced a new concept, heavy spinal armament. The Seydlitz was the first class commissioned by the Imperial Navy to use the then new Dark Matter energy technology. Armament: Twin Spinal Dark Energy Spear Generators, 10x Plasma Beam Conduits per braodside, 7x Point Defense Clusters per broadside, 10x 80mm Mass Drivers per broadside.
