A framed painting by Gustave Dore entitled "Idylls of the King".

Paul Gustave Dore (January 6, 1832 to January 23, 1883) was a French artist, engraver, illustrator and sculptor. As a young man, he began work as a literary illustrator in Paris, winning commissions to depict scenes from books by Rabelais, Balzac, Milton and Dante. Idylls of the King, published between 1856 and 1885, is a cycle of twelve narrative poems by the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 to 1892; Poet Laureate from 1850) which retells the legend of King Arthur, his knights, his love for Guinevere and her tragic betrayal of him, and the rise and fall of Arthur's kingdom.
