The Japanese tea ceremony (or chanoyu - "the way of tea") is a traditional ritual based on Taoism (Daoism) and influenced by Zen Buddhism in which powdered green tea, or matcha, is ceremonially prepared by a skilled practitioner and served to a small group of guests in a tranquil setting. This ceremony marks one of Japan's oldest and most praised traditions. The essence of the Japanese tea ceremony is harmony, and had its origins 700 years ago when Zen Buddhist monks began to explore this art form. This ceremony is usually performed in a simple yakata kimono. Please note that the accessories DO NOT work with additional sleeves on kimono.
