Maiko of all ranks, when they are off-duty (wearing regular kimono, no makeup though with their hair still done in traditional nihongami hairstyle like wareshinobu or ofuku) still wear a couple of standard kanzashi. Besides a comb, a maezashi (though that one is optional), they also wear a tama kanzashi. It is less elaborate (it is not clamped by another kanzashi on the other side of the bun) than the one that maiko wear when they are ready for ozashiki, but it still follows the same rules regarding seasonality. Also, unlike to the tama kanzashi maiko wear to ozashiki, this one is worn on the right side of the mage (bun), instead of on the left.
