Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a highly influential Japanese artist, whose print 'The Great Wave' is one of the most recognized images in the art world. The design of our Spirit of Hokusai kimono subtly refers to this theme, while the Japanese character shown front and back translates as 'Number One'.
