Framed photo of American composer John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie - American jazz trumpet player, bandleader, singer, and composer. Gillespie and Charlie Parker are considered two of the major figures in the development of bebop and modern jazz. Dizzy's signature beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, bent horn, pouched cheeks and light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.

According to Gillespie's autobiography, his iconic bent trumpet was originally the result of accidental damage caused during a job on January 6, 1953, but the constriction caused by the bending altered the tone of the instrument, and Gillespie liked the effect. In honor of this trademark, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has collected his B-flat trumpet. Truly a legend.
