"In ancient Dutch and Germanic culture, the 'Night Wolf' is a creature from the dark forest with a mood that constantly fluctuates . To keep it happy, the inhabitants of the village have to feed it every evening before they go to sleep, by putting a plate of potatoes or leftover meat in front of their door, or their children will be eaten instead. In return the Night Wolf will then guard their village furiously from anyone with evil intentions."
But of course, it's the poor people that come and eat the leftovers, and the purpose of this tale is to keep the children in at night, right? So it's just a story...
