Sanmyaku Hikizuri |
|
This is the kimono of a junior maiko, one who has not yes had her mizuage and has been working as a maiko for one to two years. The red-white collar and colorful and playful design of this kimono are only worn by such maiko (geisha apprentice). This is a vintage hikizuri (geisha kimono) with an unique mountain scenery pattern, which is dyed. The textile is kinsha (very fine crepe silk) and has a soft touch. This kimono type, worn by young, unmarried woman, is mostly regonized by the long, waving sleeves, and it's design is to be described as playful and innocent. The hikizuri is one of the trademarks of the maiko and is known all over the world. Hikizuri are the type of kimono that are only worn by geisha, maiko and during dance performances. The kimono itself is longer than a "normal" kimono, and is often made of silk and other rich materials. The accompanying obi is a contemporary fukuro obi with an elegant fan and flowers pattern, which is woven elaborately. It's textile is an exquisite silk, and has a very soft touch. |
