My eldest sister is a breast cancer survivor who is now in the fight for her life. The chemo and radiation treatments damaged her heart so severely that, even though she survived stage 3 breast cancer, her heart is barely functioning. She is now on a heart transplant list. This is the toll breast cancer takes on its victims. The damage the treatments have done to her body are extensive. Her lungs are permenantly burned due to the radiation. Her ribs are so soft that if she slightly turns they break out of place and she has to physically put them back. She suffers from enormous fatigue. Even if you survive breast cancer, your quality of life decreases tremendously. Let's hope and pray for a cure soon, not only for a cure, but for better treatments so that the survivors won't have to suffer as much for the chance to live a better life.
I support Breast Cancer Research. Breast cancer runs on both sides of my family so I know I and my other sisters have a very good chance of getting the disease too. Men also can get the disease. If you don't know how ask someone to show you how. Everyone should know how to do a self exam. Ask your Doctor to check your breasts the next time you visit. This disease has no prejudice. The best defence is early detection.
