Magic necklace gets that way because you can carve any shape you want into the pendant and have it appear really thick and substantial.
Chain is a tube that can be opacity mapped for links or patterns.
Templates are a simple square texture for pendant, and rectangle for chain (256x64 or 128x32).
If you make the chain solid, use something small like 32x8. Make sure opacity map is same size.
