After about two years after her debut, a maiko changes her hairstyle from that of the childish wareshinobu to the more mature ofuku. From the front, the ofuku hairstyle looks very similar to the wareshinobu. At the back though, it is distinctly different with the kanoko having been replaced by a chirimen ofuku-gake (tegara). The ofuku-gake, which is folded triangular in shape, is pinned to the bottom of the bun.
