What is special about these textures?

This series of IMVU+ Enhanced Eyes has been made for avatar faces that are capable of the full range of expression, including the IMVU+ avatar head. Dark upper eyelid shadows are not baked into these textures because the IMVU + heads have built in dynamic eye shading that react, flutter and realistically move with the avatars eyelids. The shadow stays under the eyelid on the IMVU+ heads, not baked on the eyeball like a tattoo.

What is wrong with having dark shadows painted into my eye textures?

Nothing if your face doesn't ever change expression much. If an avatar's head is mostly static, dark shadows painted over half the eye texture will give it a nice dramatic appearance. The downside to this is that if you ever want to emote naturally, look down, or make any widening of the eye - that shadow filling half your eye texture hides your expression and most of the time you can't tell your eye has changed at all.
