Dr. Pamela Isley was the leading research scientist in her field of botanical evolution. She became obsessed with evolving plant life into a state in which it would be able to defend themselves from the dangers of the world - especially humans.
Dr. Isley was experimenting with combining plant and animal DNA. Her results were horrific.
During one of her experiments, a mutated plant-animal hybrid overpowered her and she was thrown into her machinery and her toxic serum that she injected into the plant poured over her, seeping into the cuts she received and entering her bloodstream.
Hours later, she woke, completely transformed into a venomous creature, Poison Ivy, who possessed advanced healing abilities and the ability to command any human by releasing her hyper-pheromones that overpower the will of any person. Although, Batman has shown a remarkable resistance to her powers of persuasion.
She was also able to control the mutated plant abominations that she created. They soon began to look at her as their “Queen”.
Her quest drastically evolved at that point, from simply wanting plants to be able to defend themselves, to seeking the eradication of all human life so that the plants can remake the Earth.
This is Poison Ivy’s stronghold. Once, the beautiful gardens of Gotham City University, Poison Ivy’s plants corrupted the grounds, and it is now a toxic wasteland of green mutations and giant plants. The air is tinted with the purple glow dust of Ivy’s super-pheromones. Just being in the vicinity of this place is enough to make a person’s will-power totally give in to Ivy’s suggestions.
