The BALLBOY CONTEST IS OVER

This little guy isn't for buying, it's for DERIVING! You can buy him, but he's all white and very bland. He responds the following commands: "Dance", "Hi", "Bye", "tu", "Good", "Hm", "What", "Die", "Kill", "Hop", "Yay". Please note, the BallBoy Contest is over. You can still derive him, and you'll probably sell quite a few, but there is no longer any prize money to be won, just credits to be earned.

Here's the results....

The contest entries where judged by 4 aspect. "Looks" pertains to the appearance and detail of the texture work. "Sound" is the sound effects. "Page" is the quality of the catalog page, it's aesthetics, detail, layout, and how well it appeals to the eye (at least my eyes). And "Extra" is basically bonus points for things that impressed me, but couldn't be easily quantified in the other categories, like originality. I gave 1 to 3 points for each, to keep things simple. Please don't argue with the scores, the decision has been made and they will stand no matter how unfair/stupid/ridiculous you think they are.

Now, the finaly results, the Grand Prize Winner is:

(T68) Anxious Android
Looks: 3
Sound: 3 (Love them!)
Page: 3
Extras: 2 (no new commands, but the voice acting is great, and original music)
Final Score: 11

This creation just barely managed to get ahead of the rest due to pulling in high scores on all frounts. Talon68 didn't dominate the compention, but he was don't well on all aspects, so, in the end, he was the winner.

Tied for second place were 5 other stellar BallBoy versions:

~F~ Betty Bodgeup
Looks: 3
Sound: 2 (alot of static, but done well)
Page: 3 (excellent page!)
Extras: 2 (Really like the page and voice work)
Final Score: 10

}T{ Eye Pet
Looks: 3 (very sick)
Sound: 1 (none)
Page: 3
Extras: 3 (Super original take, I'm impressed!)
Final Score: 10

BBR Phantsmgoric Pumpkin
Looks: 2 (love the fire effect)
Sound: 3
Page: 2 (could be better out)
Extras: 3 (I love the beatbox music and the nifty skin!)
Final Score: 10

WL~BaseBall Boy
Looks: 3 (Original and detailed!)
Sound: 1
Page: 3 (very nice)
Extras: 3 (no new commands, but the skin was done VERY nicely)
Final Score: 10

[Mac] Alien BallBoy
Looks: 2 (nice face, but no feet, body, or hand detail)
Sound: 3 (love the sounds!)
Page: 2 (could have used video or more layout work)
Extras: 3 (new commands, always like to see those!)
Final Score: 10

A big thanks to everybody that entered, and of course, I'm certain you'll all seem plenty more sales in the future. So even if you didn't win, you'll all end up winning in the end with a great product that appeals to scores of people, and one you can keep selling for as long as IMVU exists. So really, no losers here!

And for those of you new to this little creation, and whom have a hankering to do a little deriving yourself, here's the templates you'll need to get started:

This is the "Color" template. This is the exact texture map you see on the BallBoy now. It's paper-white, so you can paint anything you like on it. Use this if you only want to make simple changes. Right click and use "Save As" to copy this image to your computer for editing. It's a JPEG, so you can edit it in any photo editing program:

This is the "Wireframe" template. This shows you EXACTLY how BallBoy's skin fits his body. Use this if you REALLY want control over how his skin looks and fits his body. For you advanced users, this is the one you'll need:

If you're new to Deriving, visit the IMVU Education Center and download a copy of Previewer. Make sure to read the Tutorial on the Material Tab. This is where you take your JPEG and add it to the model. To Derive you'll need to own your own name. If you're name starts with "Guest_" then you can't Derive and enter this Contest. After you have Previewer, come back to this page and click on link "Derive from product", which you will find below. After you have painted your JPEG, make sure to rescale it to 512x256, otherwise Previewer won't read it. See how your model looks, and edit your skin until it's prefect. For extra points, go to the Action Tab in previewer, and add some of those OGG sound effects you created in Audacity to those actions. A word of warning, the timing for the sound effects will never match BallBoy's actions. It's a limitation of IMVU. Then Save and submit your masterpiece! Make sure to set your item as Visible in the Catalog and make sure to click on Publish. Otherwise, we won't see your creation. Good Luck!
