Developer's guide

Welcome developer. This is a quick guide to deriving from this mesh, with some information on the texturing patterns used and several templates aimed at making your life easier. This mesh is fully designed to be easily derived from so that you can easily make your own version of it to fit your needs.

Specifications

This derivable face mask features a full face mask with wide straps attaching it to the head from the sides and the top. The mesh is designed to be extremely versatile, with all the textures featuring opacity maps and all of them fully mapped so you can give the face mask virtually any shape you want.

Textures

All the materials in the mesh have been assigned meaningful names to make it easier to identify them. All of the textures are mapped and non-tiling, and all of them are oppacity mapped. Also, the placeholder textures that are in place are color-coded to help you in easily identify what material they belong to. Nonetheless, here's the templates for all the materials on the mesh, as well as a definition of what they are and their main characteristics. You can download the templates for the textures by right-clicking on their names and selecting "Save file as..." from the context menu. I strongly recommend you use JPG files for your textures.

All three textures are fully opacity mapped, so you can change the shape of the mask to virtually anything you can think of. Also, you can make the straps thinner or make holes in the using the opacity maps there. The face mask comes with two holes for the eyes, but you can remove them by replacing the opacity map if you don't want them there, or want them a different shape. You can also completely remove the straps using a full black opacity map, or just some of them. The texture and opacity maps of the straps and the mask are not mirrored, so you can make them asymmetrical or any shape you want them to be. Finally, all three textures have vertex shading. If you don't want to use the built-in shading of the mask, just turn off "vertex colors" for the materials you don't want shaded.

Clipping issues

This mesh has been tested with several different heads, both standard IMVU heads and custom, smaller heads, to eliminate clipping. Nonetheless, heads with bigger noses might show some clipping through. You should warn your costumers about that and encourage them to use the try-it feature before buying. Also, most hairstyles will clip through the straps. That is very much intended, so that it seems like the straps are hidden under the hairstyle. Most bases will not clip through, though.
