The Mogami came about as one of GDI's cooperative ventures with Thorne Shipyards of Manticore, producing a light combatant that was able to fulfill the role of screening element or independent escort. What differentiated the Mogami from many previous Light Cruiser concepts was the concentration of its primary batteries to the fore, instead of to broadside. This concept was adapted following the introduction of the shaped-shield technology which allowed a tight fitting defense screen to be projected over the prow. Using these technologies the Mogami is built for fast striking attacks against enemy shipping, either fellow light combatants, or an entire squadron of light cruisers taking out singleton heavies. The Mogami also possess two launch bays to carry small boarding craft, or a pair of heavy fighters. Armaments: 4x Primary Lance Beams (mounted facing forward), 2x Quarkium Torpedo Launchers (forward facing), 10x Plasma Beamers per broadside, 7x Point-Defense Clusters per broadside.
