This exercise is taught in every true to life Lamaze childbirth class. By practicing pushing before labor, the mother will push more effectively and thus shorten her labor and may help avoid having an episiotomy for the birth. Settling back against her she will bring her legs up and out then take a deep breath and hold it, leaning forward while her counts to 10 slowly. Then she takes another deep breath and holds it to the count of 10, then repeats it one more time. She should not actually bear down during practice, only hold her breath.
