The Spartan Dog is partially based on a friend's dog named, "Sparty." I chose the name "Spartan Dog" not (just) because of the similarity in name, but because of the resemblance to the ancient dogs of Sparta, as shown in numerous mosaics, frescoes and pottery of ancient Greece.

The Spartan dog is merely the domestic dog, in one of it's most ancient forms, still displaying many genetic similarities to that of it's cousin, the wolf.
