When I was a child, I had dreams (premonitions...?) about the end of the world; about the USA being overtaken by many other countries, and forced into much the same situation as pre-WWII Germany.
Mother Mathilda's "children" are a collection of many young teens to older near-adults, mostly orphaned or abandoned during the war. These "children" are the rebel warriors, hellbent on regaining their homeland and forcing the enemy out of the country.
