This is my design for a new Australian flag, based on universally recognized icons that are acceptable to all citizens of Australia and are free from political connotations. The design employs the sacred centre of Australia, Uluru, as its foundation, and is crowned with the Southern Cross constellation known so well but rendered in the form of dots, not stars, to recognize the people who first populated this Great Southern Land. The colours are tertiary colours based on the lighting present at Uluru during dawn and sunset, as seen in photographs taken by the famous photographer, Steve Parish.
