The invention of the flyswatter actually predates humanity. There are multiple species of freshwater fish that construct devices very similar to flyswatters out of driftwood and water plants. They then hold these flyswatters in their mouths and use them to kill water bugs. This behavior was noticed by naturalists in 1991 and the commerical flyswatter entered production.
