The Rin'negan (literally: "Metempsychosis Eye") is the most revered of the three great eye techniques (doujutsu), the other two being the Byakugan and the Sharingan of Konoha. The Rin'negan is characterized by a number of concentric circles around the pupil of the user. Its power is said to be enough to save or destroy the world. It has recently been revealed that in addition to allowing an individual to quickly copy/master various jutsu, those with the eyes may access all six forms of elemental chakra. Though the manga has only revealed five of these types. Kishimoto has apparently revealed that the eyes grant a higher-frame, high accuracy insight surpassing even that of the Sharingan. It was first possessed by the Sage of the Six Paths (Rokudo Sennin), said to be the founder of the ninja world and the creator of the first ninjutsu. Pein, the current and only known user of the ability, first activated it during his childhood to save one of his friends. Rin'ne is the Japanese term for Samsara, the cycle of reincarnation or rebirth in several Indian religions.
