San nin mae skin by AThousandTales [ATT] Hanagushi [ATT] Ofuku

As winter begins to leave in anticipation of Spring, this month has kanzashi that feature Plum Blossoms and Daffodils. Another less common theme are the kusudama and the even rarer camellia (tsubaki). The camellia is a flower that blooms in the middle of the winter.

The plum blossom kanzashi itself is usually formed to look like the trailing deep pink, white and sometimes red blossoms that are beginning to bud and open in Japan at this time. The kanzashi will often be seen as a single flower on a branch with small buds and leaves beginning to sprout and grow again. It will also be seen as numerous little blossoms gathered together as a group accompanied by little buds and small leaves.
