Anam Cara PB

In Irish tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship. One of the fascinating ideas here is the idea of soul love. Anam Cara refers to the Celtic spiritual belief of souls connecting and bonding. Should such a deep bond be formed, it is said you have found your "Anam Cara" or soul friend. When you are blessed with an "Anam Cara", the Irish believe, you have arrived at that most sacred place: *HOME*. This bond between friends is indissoluble: "This, I say, is what is broken by no chances, what no interval of time or space can sever or destroy, and what even death itself cannot part".

Celtic jewellery is immersed in belief and each symbol on every piece represents a special meaning. Pieces with triple spiral patterns have many meanings. It can represent the holy trinity, the triple goddess and more notably, the path of existence – life, death and rebirth. The key note of a Celtic Knot is that it has neither beginning nor an end. It is eternal.

Early knot work was denoted as plait work and was used as filler for art work; however they are NOT uniquely Celtic. Knots evolved into traditional Celtic patterns. They then became localized throughout the Celtic Nations, and took on specific meanings for each knot. The Anam Cara has a certain mystery and power. It identifies meaning and beliefs. Anam Cara's containing "knot work" is believed to protect the person who wears it from evil spirits.

When animal patterns are used, they too take on a special meaning. Each animal characterizes a certain attribute: Lion is nobility and strength. The boar is ferocity and strength, Snakes or Dragons symbolize rebirth, a Bull is strength, Hounds are loyalty, Birds are purity and a Salmon depicts knowledge. Please send a private message if you would like to request a Celtic Animal symbol for your Anam Cara.
